Girls and women have the exclusive right to make decisions about their own bodies. No one should see their body subjected to any kind of violence or abuse under any circumstances
Over 200 million women and girls around the world have been victims of female genital mutilation.
44 million of them are 14 years of age or younger and approximately 3 million girls are subject to these practices each year.
Without collective action, an additional 68 million girls could be exposed to this harmful practice by 2030.
What is a circumcision on a baby girl?
Excision involves cutting or removing part or all of the clitoris, with or without the labia and majora.
In some women, only the foreskin of the clitoris is removed. Infibulation (radical circumcision) is an excision that is accompanied by suturing the introitus, leaving a small opening for urine and menstrual blood to pass through.
