Sponsoring something is the act of supporting an event, activity, person, or organization financially or through the provision of products or services. The individual or group that provides the support, similar to a benefactor, is known as sponsor.

Statement of Need
In the Greater Banjul region of The Gambia, profound poverty, exacerbated by competition for limited resources, conflict, and disease, places urban poor children at extreme risk. Lacking educational opportunities, these children are more vulnerable to illiteracy, illness, abuse, and hopelessness.
Although the Gambia government has a policy of free basic and senior school education, the financial burden on families remains significant. Hidden costs, including mandatory tuition fees, uniforms, shoes, books, and pencils, are prohibitive for many families and prevent children from attending school. School facilities are also severely under-resourced, with classrooms often exceeding 50 students, lacking sufficient desks and other learning materials.
This persistent lack of opportunity locks children into a cycle of poverty, denying them the chance to fully contribute to society or access the wider opportunities available to others. The MCO was established to address this critical and ever-increasing need by providing vital resources and support, enabling these children to unlock their full potential and build brighter futures.
Family Support
Family is one of the most important, if not the most important thing in our Gambian lives. Taking time every day to appreciate your loved ones for all that they do helps us to reconnect as a family. The basic connection between families will always be love, which connects us as parents, siblings, cousins and children.
Widows face additional challenges, including great stress, social isolation, and financial strain. Families may become overwhelmed, and find it difficult to effectively provide for their children and to find social and emotional support for themselves.
MCO Family support aims to:
- Increase the strength and resilience of families
- Support parents as they help their children with Education and special needs to achieve their full potentials
- Help families make critical connections to other families and resources in the community
- Provides individualized, family-driven support that respects family culture, values, and preferences
- Improve community capacity to serve families with children who have special needs
- Provide a stable and loving family network also provides a foundation for widows family members to flourish and fulfil their potentials.
MCO feels that the most important thing in The Gambian setting is the family. There is nothing that is better than going home to the family and eating good food and relaxing together. To us family means putting your arms around each other and being there for each other.
